Sin City
Double Sided US One Sheet (Cast), Rolled, 27 x 40"
Double Sided US One Sheet (Nancy), Rolled, 27 x 40" I find Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City film a curiosity. On one hand, I admire how he has stayed completely faithful to the source material (Frank Miller’s noir comic series Sin City), but other than the initial thrill of seeing the comic come to life, it’s rather a pointless exercise as it doesn’t really offer anything new and feels like a panel to screen remake of the comic. It’s stylishly realized (I can’t think of how it could be closer to the look and feel of the comic), but I prefer the comic…I think Miller’s hard boiled dialogue sounds better read off a page then spoken out aloud where it sounds a little clumsy. Perhaps I shouldn’t expect much from a comic that is pretty shallow. I still think the film is a massive amount of fun and I grinned all the way through it, the Marv segment is my favourite. On a side note, if you want to read more of Sin City, I’d highly recommend the excellent ‘Library Edition’ volume 1 and 2 which collects all the comics into a beautiful tome compromised of oversized art in hardback books in a slipcase (some photos in the gallery below). |
